Bye bye to IE6 in Norway
Yesterday an small revolution started in Norway. Finn.no placed an comment box on their frontpage visible only for IE6 users recommending IE6 users to change or upgrade their browser. Finn.no also published an recommendation (in norwegian) to fellow websites to do the same.

Today vg.no, the largest website in Norway, did follow up on this request and put the same recommandation on their frontpage.
I'm very pleased to inform that my employer, handling about 60 online newspapers, have put on the same recommendation on all our frontpages.
For those of you who read norwegian you can read a little bit about who our (my employer) IE6 users are here.
I'm pretty sure more websites will follow and I do also hope this will spread to other parts of the world. Lets see the end of IE6!
UPDATE I: (19/02/2009) Several other large and medium scale websites have put on a similar recommendation on there frontpages. Among them where the search engine sesam.no, the broadband operator nextgentel.no and the technology site Teknisk Ukeblad. I've also heard rumours about other major news websites joining in within a couple of days.
UPDATE II: (20/02/2009) This case are growing world wide and getting a lot of presscoverage at the moment. wired.com writes about it, Microsoft Norway have stated in an pressrelease that they support the case (english translation) and scandinavias largest website aftonbladet.se have also put on an similar message to IE6 users. Several other websites world wide are also putting on similar recommendations to IE6 users.

IE Death March Approaches! I'm curious, did you remove any legacy stylesheets?

I can only speak for the websites my employe handle and we have not removed any legacy styles or javascripts at the moment. We will just not do specific adjustments for IE6 in new features / new applications and let old adjustments for IE6 fade out as time goes by.
